1, optical performance

The optical performance requirements of fiber optic connectors are mainly the insertion loss and return loss, two of the most basic parameters.

Insertion Loss, or connection loss, refers to the loss of the effective optical power of the link due to the introduction of the connector. The smaller the insertion loss, the better. The general requirement should be no more than 0.5dB.

Return loss is the ability of the connector to suppress the reflection of optical power on the link. The typical value should not be less than 25dB. The actual application of the connector, the pin surface after a special polishing process, can make the return loss greater, generally not less than 45dB.

2, interchangeability, repeatability

Fiber-optic connectors are universal passive devices. For the same type of fiber-optic connector, they can generally be used in any combination and can be used repeatedly. Therefore, the introduced additional losses are generally within the range of less than 0.2 dB.

3, tensile strength

For well-established fiber optic connectors, the tensile strength is generally required to be not less than 40N.

4, temperature

General requirements, fiber optic connectors must be -40 °C ~ +70 °C temperature can be used normally.

5. Number of swaps

Currently used optical fiber connectors can generally be plugged and unplugged more than 1000 times.
