Industrial Ethernet Network Advantage
Jun 20, 2018

Industrial Ethernet is an Ethernet technology used in the field of industrial control. It is technically compatible with commercial Ethernet (that is, the IEEE 802.3 standard), but actual products and applications are completely different. This mainly shows that when designing common commercial Ethernet products, it cannot meet the needs of industrial sites in material selection, product strength, suitability and real-time, interoperability, reliability, anti-interference, intrinsic safety, etc. . Therefore, industrial Ethernet is different from commercial Ethernet in industrial field control applications. However, where is the advantage of Industrial Ethernet?

First, widely used

Ethernet is the most widely used computer network technology. Almost all programming languages such as Visual C++, Java, and Visual Basic support Ethernet application development.

Second, the communication rate is high

Rapid Ethernet 10,100 Mb/s has begun to be widely used, and 1Gb/s Ethernet technology has gradually matured, while the traditional fieldbus has a maximum speed of only 12 Mb/s (such as Siemens Profibus-DP). Obviously, the speed of Ethernet is much faster than the traditional fieldbus, which can fully meet the increasing bandwidth requirements of industrial control networks.

Third, strong ability to share resources

With the development of the Internet/Intranet, Ethernet has penetrated all corners. Users on the Internet have removed the geographical constraints of resources and can browse industrial control site data on any computer connected to the Internet. "Control and management integration" is unmatched by any other kind of field bus.

Fourth, the potential for sustainable development

The introduction of Ethernet will provide the possibility for the subsequent development of the control system. Users do not need to invest in the technology alone. For this, any existing fieldbus technology is unmatched. At the same time, the development of robotics and intelligent technologies all require higher bandwidth and performance of communication networks, and higher flexibility of communication protocols. These requirements can be well met by Ethernet.
